Basic Wound Treatment
LIGASANO®White is intended for once-only use when applied directly onto or into the wound. Apply 2cm thick Ligasano®White to shallow skin-deep wounds, the edges overlapping the wound by 2-4cm. Deeper wounds, pocket shaped wounds and hollow wounds should be completely padded with Ligasano®White and a further piece 2-4cm larger than the actual wound placed over the entire area and held in place FIRMLY with bandaging or porous adhesive tape to prevent maceration of the edges of the wound. There must be overall direct contact with the wound. To ensure this occurs, Ligasano®White can be compressed by up to 50%.
Dressing thickness:
Measuring from the wound base upwards, Ligasano®White should be a layer at least 2cm thick above skin level. For shallow wounds, measure from the wound base upwards to achieve a 2cm thick layer of Ligasano® White over the wound area. For deep wounds, layer Ligasano® White into the cavity and then cap with a 2cm layer over the wound area at skin level. Ligasano® will conform to the shape of the wound area.
Dressing-change frequency:
Change daily, sooner if there are signs of exudation / secretion / ooze on the covering layer of Ligasano®. This will be more apparent during the inflammatory stage of the wound. Change the dressing as required.
Once exudate reduces dressing changes may be performed every 2nd– 3rd day until healed. Ligasano® should not be left on for longer than 3 days.
Dressing technique:
Cut Ligasano® White to the shape and the size of wound and place directly onto wound bed. There should be no need to irrigation/cleanse the wound at all, unless if Sepsis has been diagnosed. Re-apply with a new piece of Ligasano® white as quickly as possible to maintain the wound temperatureand to keep infection/re-infection to a minimum.
Sticking to wound:
Should Ligasano® stick to the wound, moisten it with saline solutionto assist with removal. The new Ligasano® White dressing may be slightly moistened on the side facing the wound to prevent it sticking again. A cause of sticking is that the Ligasano® dressing has not made direct contact with the wound bed, which allows air to get to the wound. Ensure that dressing is making direct contact to the wound bed and FIRMLY secured with bandages.
Post-Operative Wound Dressing
Proceed with treatment as described in Basic Wound Treatment. Dress to fit each individual case, but adhesive tape must be pervious to air.
Burns, Grazes and Mildly Exudating Wounds:
Lightly moisten Ligasano® White on the side facing the wound otherwise proceed with treatment as described
in Basic Wound Treatment.
